Understanding Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI): Definition and Real-World Examples
When we hear the term Artificial Intelligence (AI) today, we are almost always talking about Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)—often referred to as Weak AI.
Unlike Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which remains a theoretical concept of a machine matching human-level versatility across any intellectual domain, ANI is designed and trained to excel at one specific task or a tightly defined set of tasks. It cannot reason outside its programming, apply “common sense” to unrelated fields, or adapt to scenarios it hasn’t been explicitly trained to handle.
