Where Is Song Yiren Now? The Current Status of the “Ever Night” Star

For fans of Chinese television, Song Yiren (also known internationally as Ireine Song) carved out a recognizable niche starring in youth romance and historical fantasy dramas. Rising to widespread prominence as the fierce and loyal Sang Sang in the hit 2018 epic fantasy series Ever Night (and reprising her role in Ever Night 2), she became a familiar face across streaming platforms with shows like The Best of You in My Mind and Professional Single.

However, looking at where the actress stands today reveals a complex picture marked by digital backlash, controversy, and a major shift in her public footprint.

Career Retrospective: From Breakthrough to Mainstay

Song Yiren’s path to the screen has always been unique. Having moved to Canada with her family at a young age before returning to China to study at the prestigious Beijing Film Academy and Peking University, she transitioned smoothly into a steady stream of web dramas and romance series. For several years, she was a prolific presence in the C-drama ecosystem, handling diverse roles from modern youth sports dramas to period fantasies.

Recent Controversy and Industry Backlash

In late 2025, Song’s public profile experienced a severe disruption. Following online controversies and unverified rumors linking her to the tragic passing of fellow celebrity Yu Menglong, Song became the target of intense social media scrutiny and online backlash.

The fallout from these viral discussions spilled heavily into her professional life:

• Digital Erasure and Boycotts: Parts of the internet and various online communities initiated strong pushback against public figures tied to the rumors, leading to some of her digital content, shows, and association listings facing sharp scrutiny, edits, or offline removals.
• Legal Action: Responding swiftly to the unverified claims and reputational damage, Song’s team and representatives took legal measures, reporting the defamatory rumors to the police and initiating legal action against persistent spreaders of online misinformation.

Where Does She Stand Today?

While internet controversies in the Chinese entertainment sphere often lead to abrupt career freezes or prolonged hiatuses, the long-term impact on Song Yiren’s career continues to unfold. Though she has largely stepped back from active promotional circuits and high-profile public appearances amidst the lingering digital fallout, her extensive catalog of past dramas remains a point of discussion among international and domestic fans tracking her trajectory.

For now, Song Yiren remains largely out of the spotlight as the entertainment industry and legal systems process the aftermath of the turbulent rumors that upended her career momentum.
